Using the Camera

Using the built-in iSight or an external camera, you can capture images straight into your smoovie.

The onion skinning feature may be used to overlay existing frames with live video from your camera, helping you position each shot accurately.

You may also use your Apple Remote to turn the camera on and off, control image capture and adjust the onion skinning opacity.

To turn on the camera do one of the following:

  1. From the Editor select Control > Turn On Camera or click the Turn On Camera button in the toolbar.
  2. Within the Editor press the menu button on your Apple Remote.

When the camera is turned on for image capture, the Playback View displays the live video feed from your camera.

If you have multiple cameras connected, you may select the one you wish to use for capture from the drop-down menu in the bar at the bottom of the window.

To capture an image do one of the following:

  1. Press the capture button on the bar at the bottom of the window.
  2. Press the spacebar on your keyboard.
  3. Press Play on your Apple Remote.

The image is inserted as a new frame below the currently selected frame in the Frame List.

To adjust the opacity of the video feed (onion skinning) do one of the following:

  1. Adjust the Onion Skinning Opacity slider as required.
  2. Press the right and left arrows on your keyboard.
  3. Press the < and > buttons on your Apple Remote.

To turn off the camera do one of the following:

  1. Select Control > Turn Off Camera or click the Turn Off Camera button in the toolbar.
  2. Press the menu button on your Apple Remote.
  3. Switch to the Library or close the application.
