SourceXT™ provides access to Microsoft Visual SourceSafe™
(VSS) databases over the Internet. It has a Server and a Client portion,
contained in the files of SXTserversetup.exe and SXTclientsetup.exe
respectively.
SourceXT server controls access to SourceSafe databases by
living on a computer that is on the same local area network. It communicates
with SourceXT clients over the Internet via a set of web services.
SourceXT client portion has a user-friendly Windows
application that works likes a file explorer. After a connection to a SourceXT
server is made, it provides functions for users to work with VSS files.

What is new in 2.2
- We implemented a
FAST retrieval mechanism on getting file list which is an often performed
operation. The speed increased several folds by eliminating non
critical information seek. You can always use F6 function key to
refresh file list with details if needed. If you still desire more
information the old fashion way, we designed an option "Get file list
with detail", which gets everything with file list.
- Proxy
support is implemented for people need to run SXT client behind a proxy
server.
- PIN/UNPIN
functions are now supported.
- Several
bugs fixes are also made in this release.
Cautions
- It
is important to make sure the user account is a part of the local
administrators group when you installing and configuring SourceXT Server
using the server manager application. If the computer is a part of
domain, you should use a domain account for these tasks. Please make
sure the domain account is added to the local administrators group.
- Server
account (in configuration tab) is the local network identity of SourceXT
server. It must have full access rights to all VSS database file
folders on the local area network, and ASP.NET files on the server
computer. If a domain user is used for the server account, it needs
to be added to local administrators group.
- User
lists of SourceXT server 2.2 is not back forward compatible with early
versions (1.x). If you are upgrading from a
older version (1.x) of SourceXT to version 2.2,
you need to delete all users from the list and add them to the list
again. This is has no impact on new installations of SoruceXT 2.2.
Troubleshoot
SourceXT server depends on several components to run: IIS,
ASP.NET, .net frameworks, and VSS. If
these programs are not installed and setup correctly, the server will not
function. The following are a list of
potential issues that can cause server not to setup properly:
- Computer
is missing a required program.
- IIS
uses a different user account other than ASPNET to run ASP.NET processes.
- Server
account does not have access privilege to files (ASP.NET or VSS data).
Please read the Troubleshoot section of the Server user
guide for ways to solve these issues.
