Quick Start Guide

VoodooPad is designed to help you organize your brain.  Instead of having folders with lots of little documents in it, VoodooPad lets you unify that into a single document.  Create new pages to store your thoughts, and link to existing pages just by typing the page name.

You can even think of VoodooPad as being a miniature website.  Maybe you're writing research, meeting notes, or just need to get ideas down before they escape.  VoodooPad lets you organize, tag, search, manage, and map out your information.  It also gives you the flexibility of exporting a variety of ways, and the security of encrypting your private information.

Using VoodooPad

To start using VoodooPad, create a new document and start typing.  Create pages by selecting a bit of a text and hitting the Link button in the toolbar.  A new page will be instantly created.  You've just made your first steps into VoodooPad.

Don't stop there.  Hit the Back button in the toolbar to go back to your first page.  You'll see the text that you had highlighted is now blue and underlined.  You've made a link from this bit of text to the page we were just on.  Now whenever you type that word or phrase you'll be linked to the same page.

The Palette is your gateway to organization.  If you need to change or manage, you'll find yourself going there.  If you can't see the palette, hit the Pages button in the toolbar.  Try exploring some of the palettes to see what secrets they uncover.

VoodooPad is a text editor at its heart.  It gives you all of the controls you'll need for formatting, changing the font and making the document look how you want.  Try hitting the Ruler button in the toolbar for some quick commands, or find the Type palette for more control.

While you're playing with VoodooPad, the best advice is to try things.  VoodooPad is a robust piece of software and has a lot of hidden goodies.  A lot of these can be discovered by looking through the menus, or just trying things.  Heres a few nifty things.

Dragging

Have an image or file you want to put in your VoodooPad document?  Just drag it in.  You'll be asked if you want to link to it on your computer, or some files will offer to paste themselves inside VoodooPad.  If you want more control you can import things by choosing the Import... or Embed Files....

Do you print off those internet receipts?  Try hitting the PDF button in the print dialog and choosing VoodooPad.  Instead of printing on paper, your file will be put right into VoodooPad.

The Bucket

What do you do when you're in another application, but need to jot something down really fast?  Before searching for VoodooPad in the dock, try using the bucket.  With VoodooPad open on your computer, hit the keys Command Shift 7. The bucket will pop up, letting you type things into it quickly.  You can also drag pictures and files into it.  Play around with it a little bit.

Encrypting Pages (not available in VoodooPad Lite)

Need a place to keep your secret information?  Try encrypting a page in VoodooPad.  While you're on the page you want to encrypt, choose Edit Encrypt Page....  Set up a password and hint so you can get into this page later.  VoodooPad Pro takes it a step further by letting you encrypt entire documents.

Page Syncing

VoodooPad lets you sync the pages of your document from one computer to another.  All you need is a connection to the internet, and a WebDAV host like MobileMe.  While you're syncing your document, you can also have VoodooPad make you a website thats easily viewable from your iPhone or computer.
